CPL Physicians has been retained by a start up oncology biotech business which requires a VP of Clinical Research. This is a vastly funded business who are looking for their first physician at an executive level to develop a strategic clinical development plan for a number of planned clinical trials.

They are looking for an experienced clinical research physician ideally with a broad therapeutics area background but significant experience in oncology. They have a large body of translational research and their initial targets are breast and lung cancer

Lead and drive overall clinical development in the US as well as other global markets
Be responsible for overall clinical trial design, initiation, monitoring and assessment
Interact with KOLs and oversees clinical consulting firms and CROs
Orchestrate and manage clinical aspects of regulatory strategies and interactions with Health Authorities
Make clinical and medical decisions to clinical development issues
Represent the Company to external audiences, including medical and regulatory communities, as well as pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry collaborators/partners
Work with internal and external scientific communities to seek new clinical and co-development opportunities

MD or internationally recognized equivalent
At least 5 years of experience in clinical or working in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry as a sponsor on investigational drug candidates
Management experience in overseeing CRO clinical operations
A proven success record of moving drug candidates from early clinical stage to pivotal trials
Strategic thinking and tactical skills with excellent initiative and judgment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently within a startup biotech environment

The ideal candidate would have demonstrable experience of early phase oncology research, successful interactions with regulators and strong KOL relationships on this field.

The VP role will likely progress to Chief Medical Officer post in time and while the initial task is to manage to CDP you will also be expected to lead and develop a clinical team.
